Jack Scribner’s Union Oil gas station

January 15, 2011

As part of our new snapshot project, we found this photo of Jack Schribner’s Union Oil gas station.  We don’t know where it is or was but the car makes us guess that this is a print from a snapshot taken in the forties or fifties.

Anyone with better information is invited to share it via a post in the comments section.

(Update on Sunday Jan. 16, 2011) The read is correct.  Using a powerful negative loupe we gave the print another look.  This is Jack Scribner’s Union Oil Station.

This gas station in L. A. (at Lincoln and Rose in Venice) features an ad for hair coloring thatt includes a mirror so that folks can check themselves out as they pump gas at the self-serve island.

The World’s Laziest Journalist did a column that mentioned this.

Only in L. A. can would be stars worry about their hair while pumping gas.
