Aussie flashbacks

September 28, 2010

My photos from my trip to Australia have been in storage for some time, but last week I took them out of the storage unit and can now post some of the good ones that I didn’t have time to see and post while I was “on the road.”

Through the viewfinder

June 25, 2010

When we learned that the Beat Museum in San Francisco will feature an “On the Road” around the world theme display this summer, we thought we’d revive an old photo prjoject and take something around the world and photograph it in famous places.  We took this photo at People’s Park in Berkeley CA.  Taking a photo with two centers of interest is a very big challenge.  We didn’t think this was a very good photo so it seems likely we will scrap the idea.

How the blog got its name

June 20, 2010

When we first started this photo blog we were using the Just Above Sunset Photo site’s summer intern camera which uses floppy disks to store images.  Hence the name “Floppy Photos.”

We’ve upgraded to a Nikon Coolpix camera and are enjoying the heck out of it.  Don’t have to worry about running out of floppy disks in the middle of a shoot!

Now, the big problem is where to take the new camera next?

France and Germany?

Back to Kalgoorlie?

Tune in again next time or post suggestions.

Reporting live from the Cow’s End

September 5, 2009

This is the first posting with photos from the recently acquired lap-top.  I got an external drive for floppy disks and took the above photos just a few minutes ago while coming to the Cow’s End (cofffee house in Venice CA) where I can use the wi-fi and now post photos and words!

Hot dog!

June 23, 2009

MVC-005FNick’s cafe in Los Angeles was a great place to fuel up with a hot dog that was very tasty, big and not at all expensive.  We had the kraut dog, recalled (with fondness) similar stops at Harry’s in Sydney, and then resumed our search for great car-spotting photo opportunities.

Others “on the road”

June 1, 2009

From time to time the photos will not be car-spotting pictures, but will be shots of sights and scenes (and statues) and such seen while traveling “on the road” to find good car-spotting subjects to shoot and post.

This bicycle was seen in Pasadena CA on Sunday May 31.  It was made by a firm with the name Derringer.  Dunno if they are the same company that makes the small pistol or not.
